About the Project

The Hivumuuniaqtugut Oral History Project is designed to encourage youth in learning about their history and culture. Our goal is to support youth in interviewing Elders and creating a record of stories, knowledge, and language that will be available for many years to come.

How It Works

The project works to film and record as many activities relating to Nattilik and Kitikmeot history and culture as possible. Out team of youth participants conduct interviews with local Elders with the help of translators and interpreters, and then edit the interviews to be share in the exhibit here.

Our Sponsors

The project is based at the Nattilik Heritage Centre and in partnership with Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. We have received funding from the Government of Nunavut, the Kitikmeot Inuit Association, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
